Job Summary:
The Juvenile Probation Officer plays a crucial role in the Criminal Justice system by working with young offenders to facilitate their rehabilitation and prevent recidivism. This position requires a deep understanding of criminal justice principles and the ability to establish positive relationships with juveniles, their families, and relevant community stakeholders. The Juvenile Probation Officer will be responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualized case plans, and monitoring the progress of assigned juveniles under probation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of juveniles' personal, social, and criminal history to determine risks, needs, and strengths.
2. Develop individualized case plans based on assessment findings, considering appropriate intervention strategies and services to address the juveniles' needs.
3. Monitor and evaluate the progress of juveniles on probation, ensuring compliance with court-ordered conditions and behavior modification plans.
4. Provide guidance, counseling, and support to juveniles and their families to promote positive behavioral changes and facilitate successful reintegration into the community.
5. Collaborate with relevant personnel, including law enforcement agencies, schools, social services, and mental health professionals, to coordinate and deliver appropriate services to juveniles.
6. Conduct home visits and engage in regular communication with juveniles, their families, and other stakeholders to assess progress and ensure compliance.
7. Prepare detailed reports and documentation on case activities, progress, and recommendations for court hearings and reviews.
8. Participate in court proceedings, presenting case information and recommendations to judges and other legal professionals.
9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in compliance with departmental guidelines and confidentiality policies.
10. Stay informed about current laws, policies, and best practices related to juvenile justice and probation services.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. (Master's degree preferred)
2. Strong knowledge of the criminal justice system, specifically pertaining to juvenile offenders.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations, including juveniles, their families, and community stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
5. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
6. Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help young individuals rehabilitate and reintegrate into society.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
8. Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications for case management and reporting.
9. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various locations, including homes, schools, and community agencies.
10. Knowledge of evidence-based practices and intervention strategies within the field of juvenile justice.
